Summer Art Workshops

Dates: July 5 – August 31, 2016
Time: Daily, 11am – 8pm
Cost: Free with Festival Admission, Raku Ceramics $25 and up

The Festival’s Art Center provides a spacious area perfectly suited for visitors to create their own art with the help of professional artists. All workshops (including printmaking, ceramics and mixed media) are located in one centralized location just past the Festival Green. Classes are held daily from 11am to 8pm. Groups of six or more should call (949) 464-4234 to reserve space in advance.

Multi-Media Art Workshops: Festival artists will instruct students in a broad palette of artistic expertise, including collage, paper making and molding, marbleizing, monotypes, printmaking, wood sculptures, mixed media construction, mask making, pencil comparisons (with watercolor, oils, etc), and scratchboard art.

Printmaking Workshops: A great way to learn about the art-making process first-hand is at the daily Printmaking Workshops. The Festival’s most skilled printmakers will demonstrate relief, monoprint, and reductive printmaking techniques – giving visitors an interesting and informative look into the creative art process.

Raku Ceramic Workshop: Paint a pot using the Japanese Raku ceramic glazing technique! Characteristics of this style are the random crackle and opalescence of the glaze and the blackened surface of the unglazed surface of the clay. Each piece is where fire, earth and chance merge, so each piece is one-of-a-kind! The kanji character for the term, RAKU, literally means “enjoyment” or “ease.” There is a minimal material fee of $25 (and up) per ceramic pot.
